A Supermom Special

Meet Darwin – a Boulevard homeowner, devoted father and doting husband to Sydney. Darwin didn’t want this Mother’s Day to be just any other Sunday for his wife. So he reached out to our team at Boulevard and requested we feature the woman at the center of his world.

“She’s just a kind soul. She’s one of the most selfless people I know, and I’m not just saying that cause she’s my wife. It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with her,” Darwin shares.

Sydney is supermom to two girls – four-year-old Izzy and one-year-old Maddy. A dedicated career woman, she works as a clinical psychologist, providing mental health services to the homeless population throughout the Bay Area.

She met Darwin in SoCal back in 2006 through a community choir group – an interaction Darwin describes as “love at first sight.” The couple married soon after, and once Sydney completed her doctorate in psychology, they returned to NorCal to be closer to their families.

One day, Darwin and Sydney stopped by Boulevard to tour a model home within the community. Boulevard had caught Darwin’s eye on his daily commute to Stanford Hospital, and he felt it was time, alongside his wife, to explore what would become their family’s future home. “The operational workflow of our family dynamic worked so well with this particular floor plan,” Darwin recalls. A “huge room” on the third floor was of particular interest to the couple. “We could foresee our two kids using it as a playroom,” Darwin says.

And as for the community, it was like falling in love all over again. “It’s very innovative and revolutionary, in my opinion. It’s very catered to young families – all the pocket parks and the very modern design really appealed to us. We saw ourselves settling down there.”

Though Darwin and Sydney had originally hoped to settle down at Boulevard after Izzy was born, it wasn’t until the birth of their second child, Maddy, that they were ready to trade in their packed condo for a brand new home at Boulevard.

“Ready” might be an understatement. Less than a week after their family of three became four, Darwin camped out at 3AM to secure a home at Boulevard since, at the time of their purchase, the homes were available on a first-come, first-served basis. The sacrifice of sleep was worth it – Darwin beat the line, and the family soon relocated to Skyline, a townhome neighborhood within Boulevard.

The happy family has been in their new home at Skyline for nearly a year now and couldn’t be more pleased with where they ended up. Darwin and Sydney’s busy work schedules mean every weekend is precious – and nothing short of an adventure for their daughters. Whether it’s painting in Boulevard’s pocket parks, biking around The Track or enjoying nearby activities such as Color Me Mine or Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park, this family certainly knows how to have a good time.

When asked about their neighbors, Darwin tells us, “I feel like we’re all the same demographic. Young professionals with young kids.” And for Maddy and Izzy, that means endless amounts of fun on their block. Darwin also shared that they celebrated Maddy’s first birthday at The Rec Center alongside 200 of their friends and family. If that doesn’t say “community,” we don’t know what does.

Darwin and the girls have a couple things up their sleeve for Sydney this Mother’s Day, but we’re sparing the details for the sake of the surprise. Thank you, Sydney, for providing such a beautiful example of motherhood.

And to all the moms at Boulevard – we see you. And we’d like to say thank you. Juggling work and raising children is a balancing act, and not always an easy one. The least we can do is provide a comfy, welcoming place to come home to.

This Mother’s Day, take some time to shout-out the moms in your life – we wouldn’t be here without you!

A Guest Room Redefined

Meet Sophia and Alex – the creative masterminds behind this DIY guest room at Boulevard and hosts to some very lucky overnight guests.

Alex and Sophia saw their guest room as a chance to carve out a cozy spot for those visiting their home, an opportunity to combine their individual design preferences to create one cohesive, visually appealing space. And that’s exactly what they did.

Bringing a background in fashion and plenty of creative direction to the table, Sophia took the reins on this home project. Inspired by the quaint, eclectic feel of boutique hotels, the guest room is the couple’s Pinterest board brought to life.

While Sophia is a fan of bold design, saturated colors and maximalist décor, Alex appreciates the simplicity of Scandinavian style – think IKEA-esque furnishings and minimalist fixtures. They met in the middle, melding masculine design elements with the softness of earth tones and pops of pattern throughout.

Thankfully for Alex and Sophia, Boulevard is close to shopping destinations that covered each of their design needs. The couple found colorful deco-accent books, a striped accent blanket and dazzling golden frames at HomeGoods®, followed by a visit to Crate & Barrel, where they picked up an eccentric bedside lamp. As for the art, only some pieces were purchased – the rest are original pieces by Sophia herself.

After settling on the room’s design and gathering the materials to make it happen, the couple got to work. Alex took the lead on construction, and the room began to come together with every trip to the Lowe’s® nearby.

Sophia referred to the finished product as “mid-century,” the perfect blend of her and her husband’s styles. Each touch to the room was made with intention, and it certainly shows. The couple jokes that their cat, Charlie, might make the guest room his new residence. With a pillow like that, who could blame him?

For Alex and Sophia, what started as a vision for their guest room makeover became a wildly successful, did-it-themselves home project. So if you want your Boulevard home to feel a little more like you, take it from these two – DIY renovation is entirely within reach.

The Spirit of Giving

Nothing tops the look of gratitude on a loved one’s face when they receive a gift you thoughtfully planned and packaged. Thankfully, there are plenty of opportunities in and around Dublin to provide disadvantaged members of our community with the best gift of all this holiday season—to feel seen and supported.

If you’re someone who expresses their love through food, Culinary Angels welcomes volunteers to prepare nutritious meals for those battling cancer as well as donors eager to financially support their meal plans and the individuals they serve. Alongside their cost-free meal delivery across the Tri-Valley, Culinary Angels provides nutritional education to both cancer patients and their caregivers with the hope of instilling healthy habits that promote speedy recoveries and general wellness.

As we know, food is everything around the holidays. Fill the bellies of our local youth by dropping off nonperishable donations at the Children’s Emergency Food Bank in Dublin or organize a food drive of your own to encourage the charity of your friends and neighbors. Satiety for all, and for all, a good bite.

Assist the unhoused community by offering either one-time or monthly donations to Monthly Miracles. This Dublin-based non-profit is dedicated to helping those with uncertain and unstable housing situations get back on their feet, extending anywhere from a fresh pair of socks to a new apartment. By offering your time and change to Monthly Miracles, you can strive to strengthen the community you call home by uplifting those experiencing homelessness in the Tri-Valley area.

For those looking to support the new—or should I say newborn—residents of our community, Little Miracles is a Tri-Valley-based nonprofit that seeks to equip young struggling families with the supplies and skills necessary for parenthood—and babyhood.

Whether you donate assorted baby items, launder baby clothes or interact with new parents during volunteer shifts, your contribution to Little Miracles will help replace parental anxieties with holiday celebrations for those who just added a little miracle to their family.

For some festive barks and holiday tail wags, stop by Love and Second Chances to consider giving an abused pup the gift of home this holiday season. With options to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate to support neglected dogs, Love and Second Chances welcomes anyone eager to show some love to their rescues—and with their “never say no” policy, there are plenty of paws to be helped.

Celebrate your holiday with the gifts of generosity and care. With plenty of local charities to choose from, opportunities to give back to the Dublin community and beyond are right at your doorstep.
